After a delayed start to our long drive season I kicked it off with a successful outing. We had a new venue, a new crowd and some new competitors. It was our first glimpse of Esk. (the home of our National Finals) We could not have felt more welcome with a great bunch of locals supporting the event and providing us with a well presented grid. Unfortunately the wind wasn't on our side blowing into our faces for most of the day.
It was quite a battle against the prevailing winds early and proved that experience definitely helped to post good numbers. Nathanial Barnes (South African who has placed 16th at the WLDC) and myself made it through to the playoffs with very close numbers.
Nanthanial hit approximately 310 metres in our final and I came out on top with a 330 metre shot to take my 3rd consecutive Queensland long drive title.
In the afternoon we had our first round of the Australasian Tour Championship. After qualifying the top 4 were Nathanial Barnes, Brendan Moylan, Jason Atkins and myself. I qualified number one as I hit the longest throughout qualifying which put me up against Brendan Moylan.
As always it is a hard battle against Breno with him producing his best shot of the day, my shot happened to be a little better which then put me up against Jason who had eliminated Nathanial.
I produced my best shot of the day and longest shot of the day (335 metres) against Jason which allowed me to take out the first round of the tour this year.
It was a fun event at a great venue and I am looking forward to the Nationals in a months time. Thankyou to the Esk Golf Club and everyone who contributed to this successful event.
